Description
EFnet (Eris Free Network) is the modern-day descendant of the original IRC network. Founded in 1990, EFnet has maintained its position as one of the largest and most established IRC networks in the world. The name "EFnet" comes from "Eris Free" network, named after the removal of eris.berkeley.edu, a problematic server in the early 1990s. When it left the network, administrators decided to name the remaining network the "Eris Free network" or EFnet.
